For any of you that missed it, it has been announced today that the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019 will not be implemented until April 2022.

But given that draft regulations and the Code of Practice still haven’t been released for consultation, this was inevitable.
We all know how hurriedly DoLS was brought into place, and all the difficulties that created, so this delay means we have a chance to avoid history repeating itself.
It also means we are going to have to use the DoLS system for a while yet. I can’t decide how I feel about that…
